This inflammatory process can lead to a significant deterioration in joint function and quality of life of patients. Toxic synovitis can develop in both adults and children and often requires a specialized approach to diagnosis and treatment. The main clinical manifestations include pain, swelling and limitation of movement in the joint, as well as possible fever and general malaise. It is important to conduct differential diagnostics to exclude other concomitant diseases and choose the optimal treatment strategy.

<div id="ez-toc-container" class="ez-toc-v2_0_86 of the disease and interesting historical facts

The history of toxic synovitis goes back several decades. The first scientific description of synovial inflammation was given in the 19th century, but the term “toxic synovitis” began to be actively used only in the mid-20th century with the development of medicine. Among the interesting facts, it is worth noting that early studies of inflammatory joint diseases were often based on observations of athletes and military personnel, which gave impetus to the study of traumatic causes of synovitis. There are also many historical references to cases of synovitis associated with infections such as gonorrhea and tuberculosis, which confirms the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Epidemiology

The incidence of toxic synovitis varies depending on a number of factors, including geographic location, age, and gender. Estimates of the incidence in the population range from 10 to 50 cases per 100,000 people per year. In particular, a 2021 study found that among children and adolescents, the prevalence of toxic synovitis has increased by 15% over the past 5 years. Gender predisposition also plays a role, as men are more likely to be affected by the disease than women, especially under the age of 40. These data highlight the need for active monitoring of the disease and the development of preventive strategies.

Genetic predisposition to this disease

Genetic factors play an important role in the development of toxic synovitis. Studies have shown that certain genetic mutations associated with the body's immune response may increase susceptibility to synovial inflammation. In particular, the HLA-DRB1 and PTPN22 genes have been associated with the development of autoimmune diseases that can lead to synovitis as a secondary complication. Specific polymorphisms affecting the function of immune system cells have also been identified, which may be critical for understanding the pathogenesis of this disease.

Risk factors for the development of this disease

Risk factors for toxic synovitis can be divided into physical, chemical, and other potentially disease-related circumstances.
