Clinically, this is expressed in increasing intoxication, disruption of water-electrolyte balance and, in severe cases, acute renal failure. The disease often requires a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment, including both conservative and surgical measures. The causes of the disease can vary from genetic predispositions to external factors affecting kidney function.

<div id="ez-toc-container" class="ez-toc-v2_0_85 counter-flat ez-toc-counter of the disease and interesting historical facts

The first mention of diseases associated with impaired renal filtration can be found in the works of Hippocrates and Avicenna, where symptoms characteristic of acute and chronic renal diseases were described. Since the beginning of the 20th century, with the development of diagnostic and treatment methods, a more detailed study of diseases associated with dysfunction of the renal filter has begun. In the 1950s, the first classification of diseases associated with impaired glomerular filtration was presented, which opened the way to further research. The participation of scientists in the development of hemodialysis in the 1960s significantly changed approaches to the treatment of such diseases, increasing the life expectancy of patients.

Epidemiology

Epidemiological studies show that the prevalence of Alport syndrome varies by region and population. According to the latest data, the incidence is approximately 1 case per 100,000 population in countries with a high level of health care. Given the increasing number of cases of chronic kidney disease worldwide, it can be assumed that in the future, statistics will begin to change and the incidence may increase. The main risk groups are people over 60 years old, as well as people with a predisposition to cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.

Genetic predisposition to this disease

There are many genes associated with the development of Alport syndrome, including genes responsible for the synthesis of proteins that regulate kidney function. One of the most studied is the NPHS1 gene, mutations of which lead to damage to podocytes, which in turn disrupts filtration. Research shows that the presence of single nucleotide polymorphisms in genes responsible for the leakage of calcium and sodium can also increase the risk of developing the disease. Associated genetic mutations, for example, in the COL4A4 gene, can aggravate the condition and contribute to the progression of the disease.

Risk factors for the development of this disease

Risk factors associated with Alport Syndrome can be divided into several groups:

Physical factors: High blood pressure, obesity, regular stress on the kidneys (eg heavy physical work).

Chemical factors: Exposure to toxic substances such as heavy metals and certain drugs (eg, nephrotoxic antibiotics).

Social factors: Poor nutrition and alcohol abuse, which can negatively affect kidney health.

Associated diseases: Diabetes, atherosclerosis and various infectious diseases can also lead to the development of kidney failure.

Diagnosis of this disease

Diagnosis of Alport Syndrome requires a comprehensive approach and consists of several stages:

Main symptoms: Patients may experience swelling, decreased urine output, increased fatigue, and lower back pain.

Laboratory tests: A complete blood count and urine test are required to show the presence of proteins, red blood cells and white blood cells.

Radiological examinations: Ultrasound examination of the kidneys is used to evaluate structural changes and identify possible abnormalities.

Other types of diagnostics: Scintography and magnetic resonance imaging can provide additional information about kidney function.

Differential diagnosis: It is necessary to exclude other diseases such as glomerulonephritis, diabetic nephropathy and other conditions that can cause similar symptoms.

Treatment

Treatment of Alport syndrome can be both conservative and surgical:

General treatment: Regulating diet, controlling blood sugar and blood pressure.

Pharmacological treatment: Use of diuretics and medications to effectively regulate water and electrolytes.

Surgical treatment: In some cases, surgery to restore urinary tract obstruction or a kidney transplant may be needed.

Other types of treatment: Hemodialysis may be considered as a temporary solution to remove toxins from the body in acute kidney failure.

List of medications used to treat this disease

Various medications are used in the treatment of short filtrum.
