This condition can cause significant discomfort and psychological suffering, disrupting normal personal and social functioning. PGAD is not compatible with habitual forms of sexual activity or emotional arousal and can occur in both men and women. Affected patients often report prolonged arousal, which may be accompanied by pain in the genital area or difficulty urinating. PGAD can have both biological and psychological causes, and this disorder requires a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment.

<div id="ez-toc-container" class="ez-toc-v2_0_86 of the disease and interesting historical facts

The history of medical study of disorders related to sexual arousal goes back to ancient civilizations. In ancient times, doctors and philosophers pondered the problems related to human sexual behavior. Interestingly, the Greek physician Hippocrates already mentioned various forms of sexual dysfunction, although the understanding and diagnosis of these conditions were primitive. In the 20th century, with the development of psychoanalysis and sexology, there was significant progress in understanding both normal and pathological sexual behavior. For example, the works of Sigmund Freud opened new horizons in understanding sexuality, which in turn affected later studies of disorders such as SRGBV.

Epidemiology

Because persistent genital arousal disorder is a relatively new concept in the medical literature, statistical data on the prevalence of the disorder are limited. Research suggests that more than 15% women and 5% men will experience symptoms associated with PGAD at some point in their lives. In terms of age range, the disorder can present at any age, but is most commonly seen in women of reproductive age. Less data are available for the male population, but symptoms may present in adulthood.

Genetic predisposition to this disease

Genetic predisposition to persistent genital arousal disorder is currently not studied in sufficient depth. However, some studies indicate a possible link between genetic mutations affecting silver receptors and the dopamine system and the development of this pathology. For example, mutations in genes responsible for serotonin transport can lead to disorders in sexual arousal. However, more large-scale studies are needed to establish a clear link between genetic mutations and SGAD.

Risk factors for the development of this disease

There are many factors that contribute to the development of persistent genital arousal disorder.
