This disease can occur as a result of both congenital anomalies and acquired factors, such as thrombus formation or inflammatory processes. Stenosis can be unilateral or bilateral, and its severity often depends on the degree of narrowing. The disease requires careful diagnosis and a comprehensive approach to treatment, since progressive stenosis can lead to serious complications, including pulmonary hypertension and heart failure.

<p of the disease and interesting historical facts

The history of studying pulmonary vein stenosis dates back to the early 20th century. The first descriptions of this condition are found in works related to lung pathology and cardiovascular diseases. However, significant research into this disease began with the development of radiological diagnostics. In the 1940s, active experiments began on visualizing blood vessels using X-ray methods, which opened up new horizons in the diagnosis of pulmonary diseases. One of the first cases of pulmonary vein stenosis described in the literature was in 1963, when a connection was established between stenosis and heart surgery, especially in the correction of congenital heart defects.

Epidemiology

According to epidemiological studies, pulmonary vein stenosis occurs with a frequency of 0.3-0.9 cases per 100,000 population per year. The prevalence of this disease is observed in children, especially in the presence of concomitant developmental anomalies. In adults, pulmonary vein stenosis most often occurs in patients with previous cardiac surgery. About 30% cases of stenosis may be associated with thrombosis, sexually transmitted infections, or other conditions predisposing to inflammation of the venous wall.

Genetic predisposition to this disease

Genetic predisposition to pulmonary vein stenosis may be linked to several genes and mutations. Research suggests that certain random mutations in genes involved in the development of the vascular system may increase the risk of developing the condition. For example, abnormal changes in genes involved in collagen and elastin may result in weak and narrowed vessel walls. In addition, patients with Marfan syndrome and other inherited syndromes affecting connective tissues have a higher risk of developing the stenosis.

Risk factors for the development of this disease

There are certain physical and chemical factors that can increase the risk of pulmonary vein stenosis.
