Nutcracker syndrome (NS) is a clinical condition characterized by compression of the left renal vein at the level of its intersection with the aorta and mesenteric artery, resulting in venous hypertension in the kidney. Symptoms of the disease may vary from asymptomatic to severe flank pain, macrohematuria, and proteinuria. The syndrome is more common in young women and is often associated with anatomical abnormalities such as an inverted kidney or left renal vein orifice.<\/p>\n
