The disease most commonly affects men between the ages of 30 and 50 and can cause significant impairment of quality of life. Nonbacterial prostatitis is classified based on various symptoms and pathologies, often referred to as type III prostatitis in the NIH classification. Although the etiology of many cases remains unclear, it is hypothesized that factors such as stress, immune responses, and neural dysregulation may play a key role in the pathogenesis of this condition.

<p of the disease and interesting historical facts

It is also worth noting that non-bacterial prostatitis has its own history, dating back to ancient times. The first mentions of prostate diseases can be found in the works of Hippocrates, who described symptoms similar to those characteristic of prostatitis. In the Middle Ages, despite the lack of knowledge about the nature of this condition, doctors used various methods of treatment, including the use of oils and herbs, as well as procedures such as bloodletting. Interestingly, in the 18th century, doctors began to notice a connection between the patient's psycho-emotional state and the manifestations of prostatitis, which confirms the importance of neurological factors in the development of this disease. Unfortunately, in the 20th century, with the growing popularity of antibacterial therapy, non-bacterial prostatitis was underestimated for a long time, which led to limitations in the explanation and treatment of this pathology.

Epidemiology

According to statistics, nonbacterial prostatitis is one of the most common urological diseases, affecting more than 10% men in different age groups worldwide. Results of epidemiological studies show that from 30% to 50% of all visits to the urologist are associated with symptoms that can be attributed to nonbacterial prostatitis. According to data collected over the past two decades, this syndrome is most often detected in men aged 40 to 60 years, but its manifestation is possible at an earlier age. Differences in the prevalence of the disease can be due to many factors, including access to health care and awareness of symptoms.

Genetic predisposition to this disease

Research suggests that there are certain genetic aspects that may predispose some men to developing nonbacterial prostatitis. In particular, it has been found that mutations in genes responsible for the immune response may increase the likelihood of developing this disease. Among these genes are IL-10, TNF-alpha, and others associated with inflammatory processes. Studies on twins also suggest that hereditary predisposition may play a role, but the exact mechanisms and specific genes involved in pathogenesis require further study.

Risk factors for the development of this disease

There are a number of factors that can contribute to the development of nonbacterial prostatitis:

Physical activity: A sedentary lifestyle can contribute to pelvic congestion.

Stress: psycho-emotional stress can aggravate inflammatory processes.

Hormonal imbalances: An imbalance of testosterone and other hormones can affect the health of the prostate gland.

Inflammatory diseases: Having underlying inflammation in the body can increase the chances of developing prostatitis.

Chemical factors: Exposure to toxic substances in the body, including some medications and chemicals in the environment, may also play a role.

Diagnosis of this disease

Diagnosis of nonbacterial prostatitis involves a number of clinical and laboratory methods.
