In 1844, the German doctor Max von Pettenkofer first described in detail the mechanism of the formation of renal colic in urolithiasis. It is interesting to note that in the 19th century, there was an erroneous opinion about the connection of this syndrome with the &quot;stagnation of vital forces&quot; in the body. &quot;An important step in understanding the pathogenesis was the discovery of X-rays in 1895, which made it possible to visualize stones in the urinary tract,&quot; notes Professor of Medicine John Harrison in his 1923 work.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%D0%AD%D0%BF%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BC%D0%B8%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%BE%D0%B3%D0%B8%D1%8F\"><\/span>Epidemiology<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Statistics indicate a significant prevalence of this pathology: the annual incidence is about 120 cases per 100,000 population.
