It is a rare but serious disease belonging to a group of neoplastic diseases characterized by atypical proliferation of lymphocytes. Gastric lymphomas can manifest themselves in various forms, including primary and secondary types. Primary gastric lymphoma develops directly in the lymphoid tissue of the organ, while secondary lymphoma develops metastatically from other organs affected by lymphoma. Typical symptoms include intermittent abdominal pain, loss of appetite, nausea, and weight loss. The final diagnosis is established on the basis of a comprehensive examination, including endoscopy and biopsy. Timely diagnosis and treatment of gastric lymphoma are critical to improve the prognosis and increase the chances of recovery.

<div id="ez-toc-container" class="ez-toc-v2_0_86 counter-flat of the disease and interesting historical facts

Gastric lymphoma was first described in the early 20th century. The main stages of the disease research are associated with the development of oncology and hematology. In 1944, the German pathologist D.H. Puchin determined that lymphomas can occur in various tissues, including the stomach. This contribution became the basis for the subsequent understanding of the pathogenesis of the disease. An interesting fact is that in some regions of the world, the frequency of gastric lymphomas is significantly higher, which helps to assume the influence of ecology and lifestyle on the development of the disease. Today, various studies continue to record cases of gastric lymphoma, investigating not only clinical manifestations, but also molecular mechanisms, the role of infectious agents and genetic predispositions.

Epidemiology

The epidemiology of gastric lymphoma varies greatly across regions of the world. According to the World Health Organization, gastric lymphoma is a relatively rare disease, accounting for approximately 1-5% of all gastric cancer cases. Surprisingly, its prevalence is higher in East Asian countries such as Japan and Korea, where the incidence rate is 10-20%. However, in Western countries, including the United States and European countries, the incidence is lower. Approximately 60% cases of gastric lymphoma are diagnosed in men, and the average age of patients ranges from 50 to 70 years. An increase in the number of cases has been observed in recent decades, which may be due to improved diagnostic methods and an increase in the incidence of gastrointestinal infections.

Genetic predisposition to this disease

Studies indicate a genetic predisposition to gastric lymphoma. Mutations in various genes, such as BCL2 and MYC, play an important role in the tumor process, promoting uncontrolled proliferation of lymphocytes. For example, translation of the MYC gene, associated with high-grade forms of lymphoma, is often found in patients with gastric lymphomas. In addition, polymorphisms in genes associated with the immune response can increase susceptibility to lymphomas. In some cases, an association with chromosomal abnormalities is revealed, which implies a significant influence of genetic factors on the occurrence of this disease.

<span
